What is Balance Activ BV Pessaries?

Balance Activ BV Pessaries are a treatment that can help to relieve the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis.

What is Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and how does Balance active help?

Bacterial vaginosis is an infection that affects your vagina, causing an unpleasant, fishy-smelling discharge. This happens when the natural balance of the bacteria in your vagina is disturbed. 

This dual action vaginal pessary contains lactic acid, which immediately neutralises the embarrassing odour by restoring the normal pH of the vagina. It also contains glycogen, which provides nutrients for lactobacilli (friendly bacteria). For the rapid, effective relief of embarrassing odour, abnormal discharge discomfort, and Bacterial Vaginosis

What can cause Bacterial Vaginosis?

• Intercourse (especially if you have been with a new partner (BV is NOT an STI)

• Using perfumed soaps and products (even scented toilet rolls) around the vagina.

• If you use an IUD contraceptive device

• During or after you have your period

Please note the cause of bacterial vaginosis is generally hard to pin down as a lot can cause it.  

Important Information

1. Balance activ is not a contraceptive and should not be used to prevent pregnancy.

2. If you want to have intercourse whilst you are using this product we recommend you speak to your GP or pharmacist first and they can recommend the right contraceptive options to use.

3.  Balance activ is not to be used with polyurethane or natural rubber latex condoms, as it can degrade the condom and make it less effective.

4. DO NOT USE if you are trying to get pregnant as this product has a low PH, which is not an ideal environment for sperm.

5. If you want to get pregnant but have BV speak to your GP about getting treatment.

6. DO NOT USE if you are allergic to shellfish or any of the ingredients in this product.

7. DO NOT USE if you are under 16 years of age.

8. If you suffer from any irritation when using this product stop use and if symptoms still persist then speak to your GP.

9. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

10. Read the package leaflet before use.

Ingredients:

Active ingredient: Lactic acid

Other ingredients: glycogen, propylene glycol, methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose, sodium lactate, water, pH3.8.

Does not contain any preservatives

How do I use Balance Activ BV Pessaries?

Directions:

Use ONE Pessary daily for 7 days.

• Wash and dry your hands thoroughly

• Remove a single pessary from the packet – this is your recommended single dose, and the pessary should never be cut or divided in any way

• Sit or lie down with your knees bent and your legs spread apart

• Gently insert the pessary as far into the vagina as is possible and comfortable using your fingers

• Thoroughly wash your hands again

It is best to use Balance Activ BV Pessaries at bedtime. It may be helpful to wear a panty liner as it is common to notice slight leakage. This does not mean the treatment has not worked.

What are the side effects of Balance Activ BV Pessaries?

There are no known side effects of this product.
