What is Daktarin Intensiv Cream?

Daktarin Intensiv is a cream containing the active ingredient ketoconazole used to treat fungal skin infections Athlete’s Foot (feet) or Dhobie Itch/tinea cruris (groin area Jock itch). It will relieve the symptoms of these infections and provide long-lasting protection.

What is the Active ingredient in Daktarin Intensive and What does it do? 

Daktarin Aktiv contains the active ingredient Ketoconazole which works by killing the fungi and bacteria which cause the infection in the first place. It kills the fungi by targeting the fungal cells and making holes in their membranes causing them to die. This prevents further spread of the infection and heals the treated areas.

What is an Athletes's foot?

An athlete’s foot is a fungal skin infection. This happens when the natural fungi on your skin are allowed to multiply and cause infection. This usually happens if you have feet that sweat a lot and wear tight-fitting shoes. This warm, moist environment is the perfect place for these fungi to thrive, causing a sore and itchy rash when your skin is infected.

What causes Athlete's Foot?

Athlete's foot is caused by fungi that thrive in warm and moist environments; such as:

• Changing rooms

• Showers

• Public pools

Walking barefoot in these places can put you at greater risk. Athlete’s foot usually occurs between your toes, but it can also affect the soles and sides of your feet.

What symptoms should I look out for if I have athlete's foot:

• Burning or itchy feet and toes

• Scaly, very dry, cracked, or peeling feet

• A scaly, red foot rash

• Softening of the skin between your toes

• whitening of the skin between your toes

• Cracked skin between your toes (may bleed)

• Smelly feet

What is Dhobie Itch/tinea cruris (Jock itch)?

Jock itch (tinea cruris) is a fungal infection that causes a red and itchy rash in warm and moist areas of the body. The rash often affects the groin and inner thighs and may be shaped like a ring. Jock itch gets its name because it's common in athletes. It's also common in people who sweat a lot or who are overweight.

Warnings and Precautions

Do not use if:

• You are allergic to any of the ingredients this cream contains.

Speak to your GP or Pharmacist before use if:

• You are pregnant or breastfeeding. 

• You are taking or using any other medications. 

Important information

• Always make sure that you wash your hands before and after use to prevent spreading the fungal infection to other parts of your body.

• Do not share or use another person’s Daktarin cream as it may be harmful to them. Daktarin is used to treat fungal infections which can be spread by sharing creams.

Ingredients

Active ingredient: Ketoconazole 2% w/w.

Other ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Cetyl and Stearyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Stearate, Polysorbates 60 & 80, Sodium Sulphite (E221) Isopropyl Myristate, Purified Water.

How do I apply Daktarin Intensiv Cream?

Dosage:

Daktarin Intensive can be used to treat both athlete's foot and jock itch.

Athletes Foot

For use in adults: Wash the affected area well and dry (especially between the toes).

Apply the cream thinly to the affected areas twice daily for 1 week for mild infections between the toes, or until 2 to 3 days after all signs of more severe infection have disappeared.

Jock Itch

Apply the cream once or twice a day until 2 to 3 days after all signs of infection have disappeared.

What are the side effects of Daktarin Intensiv Cream?

Possible side effects:

• burning sensation

• itching

• redness

• rash on the skin
