How often can women take Levonelle pills to prevent unplanned pregnancy?

Jun 17, 2021

The only way for women not to get pregnant is by total absenteeism (or if they are medically infertile), but sexual intercourse is a spontaneous and natural human interaction that is practised by almost all human beings. Unfortunately, it is also true that because people enjoy their sexuality widely and sometimes with more than one partner, accidents can happen, or sometimes you just forget to take your contraceptive pill and the result is often unwanted or unplanned pregnancy.

When it comes to female contraceptives, there are many different products and brands on the market these days, and although the success rate of these products is not 100% guaranteed, many women find resignation in it. However, there is also a chance that the product is no longer effective, or in the case of males using a condom, the product may tear during sexual intercourse.

Fortunately, with modern science, it is very possible to prevent unwanted pregnancies, even when couples have had unprotected sex.

What is a morning-after pill?

Levonelle is not a long-term contraceptive, but a single morning after pill which is also referred to in medical terms as an effective emergency contraceptive that is used only when a couple has had unprotected sex, or if the usual contraceptive is missed or forgotten, to prevent an unplanned pregnancy. It may consist of levonorgestrel or ulipristal acetate, which works by slowing or inhibiting ovulation.

When should I take the pill?

Levonelle can be used up to three days after intimate contact or unprotected sex, but its effectiveness will decrease as the days progress after having unprotected sex. It is best recommended to take the pill as soon as possible (preferably within 72 hours). It can be bought at any online pharmacy in the UK, and the price can range from £13.95 or more, depending on where you buy the pill.

Levonelle typically works by delaying or inhibiting ovulation, which can make it difficult for the sperm to enter the uterus and possibly cause the oocyte to mature. In addition, your hormone levels may change after ovulation, but they may also work in other ways.

The effectiveness of Levonelle is estimated to be between about 85% and 95% if taken promptly. If however, you are regularly having unprotected sex, you should strongly consider using long-term contraceptives, as Levonelle can only be taken as an effective treatment, twice per normal menstrual cycle at maximum.

Because you should not let accidents during your most intimate moments ruin your life, you should also always be prepared in more ways than one, and Levonelle offers that extra bit of assurance in times of an emergency.

At SimplyMeds Online, we can help you with expert advice, and also provide you with effective long-term contraception so that you can enjoy your intimate life with peace of mind.
