What are Lantus Solution For Injection Cartridges?

Lantus contains the active ingredient Insulin Glargine which is considered a long-acting insulin. This is a treatment for diabetes mellitus used with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels. It may be used in combination with other medicines for diabetes if advised to do so by your GP.

How does Insulin Glargine work as a treatment for Diabetes Mellitus?

Insulin Glargine works by stimulating peripheral glucose uptake in the body, blocking fat and protein breakdown, and glucose production in the liver. Due to this medications long-acting nature, Abasagler improves glycemic control through a more convenient mechanism when compared to short-acting drugs with similar actions. In short; Insulin glargine has a long and constant action of reducing blood sugar.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). 

The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.

Lantus is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Diabetes.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Lantus is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. Insulin Glargine has a relatively constant glucose-lowering profile over 24 hours that permits once-daily dosing.  Insulin glargine is a modified insulin which is very similar to human insulin.

What are the side effects of Lantus Solution For Injection Cartridges?

Common side effects:

• Pain, redness, rash and irritation at the injection site

• Weight gain

• Edema
