What is Betnovate Cream 0.1%?
Steroid topical treatment for eczema and psoriasis
Reduces inflammation
Branded version of Betamethasone cream
Betnovate cream and ointment is a topical corticosteroid that is used to reduce inflammation and redness of the skin. It is the branded version of betamethasone cream and presents in the same strength and formulation. In combination with your regular moisturiser or emollient Betnovate cream can be an effective treatment for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. It can be used on most parts of the body and is recommended for short–term regular use.
Corticosteroids, are anti-inflammatory medicines. The body releases infammatory chemicals in response to an allergen or irritation. These chemicals make blood vessels widen, causing the skin to swell and become itchy and painful. Betnovate will work to reduce the amount of these chemicals released so will reduce the inflammation in the skin.
Ingredients:
The active ingredient contained in Betnovate is betamethasone 0.1% (as valerate).
Betnovate cream also contains the following inactive ingredients to make up the complete product:
Cetomacrogol 1000, chlorocresol, cetostearyl alcohol, white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, sodium acid phosphate, phosphoric acid, sodium hydroxide, purified water.
Before you start using Betnovate, wash and dry your hands thoroughly.
Gently rub a small amount of cream or ointment on the affected area as directed by your doctor.
After applying the ointment or cream, wash and dry your hands thoroughly, unless it is being used for treating your hands. You can measure how much Betnovate to use with your fingertip. For children you will need to use less cream but still use an adult finger to measure out the fingertip unit.
Occlusive dressings are NOT recommended, unless advised by your doctor.
It is important to use Betnovate exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you to.
Do not use it just before having a bath, shower or going swimming. If you do, you may reduce the effectiveness of Betnovate.
Do not apply Betnovate to your face unless specifically advised by your doctor.
If your doctor has told you to use it on your face, do not let the cream or ointment get into your eyes. If you accidently get some in your eyes, wash them thoroughly with running water for at least ten minutes.
If you use Betnovate less than you should, it may not work as well and your skin problem may not improve.
However, if you use Betnovate more often than you should, it may not improve your skin problem any faster and may cause or increase side effects.
