Co-Diovan comes in three strengths: 80/12.5mg, 160/12.5mg and 160/25mg

What are Co-Diovan Tablets?

Co-Diovan contains Valsartan which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and Hydrochlorothiazide which is a thiazide diuretic (water pill). This medication may be used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

How do the active ingredients Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide work as a treatment for High Blood Pressure?

Valsartan works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood passes through them more easily. Relaxed vessels increase the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart which improve blood pressure and the hearts workload.

Hydrochlorothiazide works by reducing the amount of water in the body by increasing the flow of urine. This helps lower blood pressure.

What is High Blood Pressure?
 

High blood pressure is added workload to the heart and arteries. If this added  pressure continues for a long period of time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. With controlled treatment of high blood pressure these problems may be less likely to occur.

Emergency supplys of Co-Diovan:

Co-Diovan is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for high blood pressure.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Co-Diovan is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Co-Diovan can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Co-Diovan you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

Some patients experience spells of dizziness while taking Co-Diovan tablets. Make sure this does not apply to you before driving a car or working with machinery.

How do I take Co-Diovan Tablets?

Co-Diovan Tablets must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

Recommended starting dose is usually:

One tablet once a day.

Your doctor may adjust the dose as needed. 

• It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water.

What are the side effects of Co-Diovan Tablets?

Common side effects:

• dizziness

• low blood pressure, with or without symptoms such as dizziness, and fainting when standing up

• reduced kidney function

Uncommon side effects:

• Angioedema

• Sudden loss of consciousness

• Vertigo

• Signs of acute kidney failure

• Muscle spasms, abnormal heart rhythm 

• Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing while lying down, swelling of the feet or legs

• Headache

• Cough

• Abdominal pain, Sickness, Diarrhea

• Fatigue, Weakness
